Dr. John A. McKinney
Dr. John A. McKinney was a distinguished educator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, celebrated for his commitment to academic excellence and personalized student attention. He also served as the Director of the Trustees Ministry at New Birth Baptist Church, leaving a lasting legacy of leadership and dedication to education and faith in the community.
Dr. Victor T. Curry
Bishop Victor T. Curry is the founder of Dr. John A. McKinney Christian Academy, dedicated to providing Christ-centered education and personalized learning. As Senior Pastor of New Birth Baptist Church, he has championed impactful community initiatives and remains committed to faith, education, and social justice.
Rhonda McKinney
Rhonda C. McKinney was a dedicated educator with 24 years of service in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, including her role as principal of Oak Grove Elementary Community School. A founding member of New Birth Baptist Church, she was known for her leadership and commitment to educational and spiritual growth. Rhonda leaves behind a legacy of excellence in education, faith, and community service.
Our History
The Dr. John A. McKinney Christian Academy (JAMCA) was born out of a vision to create a nurturing environment where children could grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Inspired by the legacy of the late Dr. John Albert McKinney—an esteemed educator, founding member, and trustee of New Birth Baptist Church—JAMCA stands as a tribute to his dedication to education and community.
In 1995, Dr. Victor T. Curry envisioned a school that prioritized personalized attention and holistic development for every child. This vision gained momentum as families sought an alternative to the limitations of the No Child Left Behind Act, which often left children struggling in public schools. Rather than focusing solely on standardized testing, JAMCA was established to provide a foundation rooted in Christian principles, academic excellence, and leadership development.
By August 16, 2004, JAMCA officially opened its doors on the grounds of New Birth Baptist Church, welcoming students into an environment of faith, excellence, and purpose. From its inception, JAMCA has been dedicated to equipping students with the tools they need to succeed academically and personally while fostering a love for learning and leadership.
Today, JAMCA continues to uphold its mission as a beacon of hope and excellence, preparing students to be visionary leaders who positively impact their communities and the world. As the "Home of the Eagles" and the "Birthplace of Visionaries," we remain steadfast in our commitment to faith, excellence, and leadership.

Grounded in Christian principles, our academy nurtures students’ God-given potential through rigorous academics, character-building, and innovative leadership training. We aim to inspire students to think critically, act creatively, and lead with purpose as they prepare to fulfill their divine destinies.
